New technology on the Irish manufacturing space: Dual source laser CNC machining

This article will be a bit different, and short. Beyond this blog, I work as a Senior Researcher in a technology centre in Ireland, and part of our mandate is to bring new technologies into the Irish manufacturing space.

While I like to, albeit currently very sporadically between work and evening classes, write about papers that interest me in the area of lasers and more recently femtosecond laser CNC machining, I would like to use the blog now to share that I was successfully awarded a grant to onboard a laser CNC machine into the technology centre in which I am employed in 2025.

The current scope of this machine is a 5 axis dual source nanosecond femtosecond laser CNC machine. We are currently tendering for this machine and expect onboarding as soon as possible once the tender closes.

As well as being a personal milestone, this is an important step in enhancing the capabilities of Irish manufacturing, and it will be an exciting few years ahead in this space!
